clover chain

Last weekend I went to Montauk with my family for a few days. Age-wise, I was in a funny spot - I was at least ten years older or twenty years younger than anyone else, so I spent some time wandering off on my own. It was sort of a mini summer vacation for me and I felt summery and dreamy and untethered...

I took a walk down to the beach and on my way back, picked some clover flowers for a bracelet. When we were in middle school, my friends and I used to make these chains in all of our free time - we had one long chain that was many feet long, that we toted around in a bag with us...

It was a nice feeling, making this bracelet. It didn't feel unusual, or forgotten; I tied almost all the knots without even looking. It felt familiar and easy and natural. Oh summertime...
