wilmot is a couch potato

This past weekend was really great because we stayed inside pretty much the whole time, and I finished making the couch! When we moved in a year ago, I sewed the covers for the seat cushions, but we didn't have any back cushions, just some throw pillows. Originally I was planning on using the same foam to make the back of the couch, but it would be difficult, expensive and not exactly give me the look I was going for, so I put it off until now.

Here you can see that the base of the couch is a built-in bench with 3 drawers for storage - the layout of our apartment is really brilliant. The new back cushions are made up of 7 standard-sized bed pillows in one long pillowcase - the pillowcase has stitches to hold each pillow in place, and the pillows can be taken out by opening invisible zippers that are sewn into the bottom seam, one zipper for each pillow.

This is the coziest place in the apartment, the nook!! I made the cushions extend all the way around, so you can climb into the nook and be surrounded by pillows on 3 sides. It feels really really good in there.

in the home stretch!?

I wish I were able to update this blog more often, but my main project these days is still my patchwork quilt. HOWEVER, I'm very excited that I've started quilting around the edges! I began the quilting in the very center of the quilt, working my way outwards, so I've done at least 75% of it.

After quilting, the next and final step will be to sew a binding around the edges, which I'll do partially by machine.

I gave myself a goal of finishing by the end of summer - not sure if that's happening, but I sure hope so.
